Roblox is an online gaming platform that allows users to design, create, and play games created by others. Players can customize their avatars, join groups, and participate in different events. Roblox has a strong focus on social interaction, making it a popular platform for users of all ages, not just children.
Roblox is unique from other games in that all of it's games and cosmetics are generated by the players, and there's a whole Roblox economy which uses it's own currency called robux. The platform provides a variety of tools and features that allow users to design their own games through their own programming language called Lua. Players can then publish these games that they make for others to play. The incentive for people publishing their games is to gain robux in the form of in-game transactions, such as paying to skip a hard level in a Roblox obstacle course.
To demonstrate how easy it is for someone to create their own experience, I decided to make an experience myself. The community of Roblox developers is incredibly supportive and it's easy to learn how to program games.
Creating a simple obstacle course took me around 10 minutes, because with Roblox's drag and drop feature for assets, it becomes incredibly simple to create a compelling experience that people will flock to.
Another incredibly forward-thinking aspect of Roblox is it's marketplace. Roblox's marketplace is where users can design and sell their own cosmetics for robux. What this means is that Roblox basically has an economy and children can learn about business and making money through the means of robux in Roblox.
Through spending some robux in the Roblox marketplace, I was able to make my avatar look like the character Freddy Fazbear from Five Nights at Freddy's.
Not only does the marketplace encourage creativity, it also encourages children to make their own products and sell them for Robux.
Not all video games are bad, as Roblox has proven. Sometimes, it's possible for children to not only have fun, but learn important skills along the way, such as coding through programming games and economics through the Roblox marketplace.
